SU LEE NEWS 2003-05-31

Hi there healthy world,

it started off all so well. I planned to go for a swim with my daughter, after that get her bicycle repaired, then have lunch with the family, do the shopping and get home, enjoying some online-chess on the PC.

BUT - things went completely wrong, when I watched the hello-and-good-morning News on the Telly. I was actually prepared to hear of murder and manslaughter, some earth quake somewhere, a couple of kids missing and maybe a bad car crash. But the news which almost crashed MY day was the 127th announcement of the outstanding danger of the bloody heavy breeding syndrom - or whatever it's called, the world threatening unknown and no-way-to-protect-you Infection which had caused over 500 people dead - worldwide - and more than 7000 infected - worldwide - and looked like it would erase mankind ... unless you do the math.

Look, 500 dead and 7000 infected over a period of 3 months ... are you kidding me?

A standard flue gets it up to a couple of hundred thousands in only a few days - with an only 1% death rate though - wich adds up to a couple of thousand people dead... <ach so> and Malaria (what an ugly word) kills over a million people a year, worldwide... <ach so> and coconuts, don't forget the coconuts dropping and knocking out people (no exact figures available) - even though a cocnut is not a disease... <ach so> and wasn't there a war somewhere recently - or was it two wars - or is it one permanent war... <ach so>

Well to cut a long story down, watching those news did really upset me because it hurts a whole region and it's actually a pleasant region, with people just a nice as where you live - and I can't get rid of the thought that someome is trying hard to do some damage - whether it's just to present "great" news or whether there might be even worse, wicked intensions. Think about it ... economies in western countries are stagnant, Asia still on the rise, nobody talks about Africa... <ach so>

The pain is - those news infect more people than anything else on this planet.

For that reason I'd be glad to hear of new definitions of the for-letter-abbreviation of the formerly-known-as-SARS disease. My definition, my definition is...

S elect your daily news propperly - before you start digesting.
A lonely rider (or was it writer) is still better than a sunset without a goose. d
R ink more, eat more, smoke fatter cigarettes, have wilder sex and buy a Volvo.
S ee you around!

for the healthy, for the filthy, for the free, Su Lee
